Hi Bonita,
I became a Premier member last fall (2011) and received a pruning saw and pruning shears to test, which didn't do me much good either since the yard work was already done for the winter (I'm in Massachusetts).  I still haven't had a chance to "test" them, but just from appearances they are poorly designed and flimsy (both made in China).  I agree that they need to consider your zone when sending products.

Of course other than getting products when I upgrade my membership I have never been chosen for a test program, even though I keep sending in the request form.  So I don't worry about the test products too much.  It would be fun, but to be honest, I already have all the gardening tools I need.

The magazine has improved considerably through the years though, and like you, I'm enjoying it.   I'm trying to get more involved in the online community now to get more 'value' from my membership.  I think my main reason for becoming a Premier member was because I never have to think about dues and I have a go-to place that I trust for gardening information.

I think what you get out of this club is what you put into it.  I compiled a good library of gardening books that they sent me over the course of a few years, but after awhile it seemed to be the same information in a new package, so I asked them to stop sending me the books, which they very graciously did - no hassle, no pressure.  I consider their good customer service one of my 'perks' as well.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts - I was glad to see I wasn't the only person to get a product at the wrong time of year! I was certainly scratching my head in bewilderment!

Hi all. I have been a life member for many years now. After much complaining I received an e-mail from them in March of 2010 saying I was selected to get a test product and it would come in approx. 8 weeks. Nothing ever came. I questioned it and was told that the product did not become available, so I would be put back on the list for a new product. This is now 2 years later and---no product to test as of yet!!! I joined this club because the original mailing that was sent to me to ask me to join--asked if I wanted to be a product tester and even keep the products that I test. It was a plea for product testers. I would have never joined just a gardening club. The internet is full of gardening information and with a little bit of searching, you can find the answer to anything. I was intriged by the product testing. Then I was told that if I become a "Lifetime" member then the products would be worth more money and be more frequent. SO WHERE ARE THE PRODUCTS???? I have tested NOTHING in the past 3 to 4 years. The best part is the only thing I have ever tested was a sheet of paper with planting guides on herbs---and I DON'T plant herbs--which is on my profile. The paper was smeared. It looked like a very bad copy. I know they have a lot of members, but they should not take the money of new members if they do not have enough products to test.

I have to agree. I was promised all the standard "introductory " products but have yet to receive them over a month and half later. I have received a book that needs payment and a small trowel Made in China. I have other gardening sites that I visit that have a MUCH easier site to navigate. I joined several years ago, I guess I didn't learn my lesson the first time. Shame on me.

I've been in the club going on 3 yrs. I've had 2 products to test early on. I don't appreciate them sending me things unasked for and expecting me to pay for it or pay to ship it back. I am somewhat disabled but do as much of my own gardening myself. It just takes me three times as long as an average person.
